Ten weeks postpartum, I’m starting to focus on losing the weight I gained during pregnancy. But as a breastfeeding mom, I’m balancing two goals that don’t always seem to go hand in hand. I want to feel good in my body again, but I also want to make sure my baby is getting everything she needs.
I’ve helped many breastfeeding women navigate this process, and now I’m putting my own experience into practice. There’s a lot I’m still figuring out, including how to find the right balance without making an already demanding season of life even harder.

Weight loss while breastfeeding can be possible once milk supply is established, but it requires balancing a calorie deficit with adequate nutrition for both mother and baby. The appropriate timing, calorie intake, and rate of weight loss vary from person to person. Gradual changes and attention to milk supply are important considerations during this stage.
